Horseback Riding

Lanai is the perfect place to experience the rich cowboy culture of the Hawaiian Islands. In fact, the Hawaiian cowboy, or Paniolo, predates the cowboys of the American West by decades! On horseback, you’ll be given an opportunity to explore the hills surrounding The Stables at Koele, once the center of ranching operations on the island. The wooded valleys and trails of this extraordinary upland terrain are home to axis deer, Mouflon sheep, and turkey. Horses are available to suit all skill levels. So, saddle up for a day of fun and adventure!

Clay Shooting

Experience the thrill of “hunting” without hurting a fly! The 14-station sporting clays course in the wooded uplands of Lanai challenges shooters of all skill levels. Your guide will cover gun safety and awareness, course rules, and shooting etiquette. Once you’ve mastered the basics, aim for sporting clays launched to simulate flight patterns of duck, quail, dove, and pheasant, or the running patterns of rabbits. For additional challenge and fun, set your sights on 3D animal targets, such as turkey, deer, ram, or boar. You’re invited to unwind and test your marksmanship in the cool pine country of Lanai!

Take advantage of a Jeep rental for the day and explore miles and miles of the island’s rugged terrain while taking in the scenery of Keahkiawelo (Garden of the Gods), Polihua Beach, and Kaiolohia (Shipwreck Beach). The clay roads are not paved and a challenge to drive, so this is an adventurous choice!

Jeep Limitations: A valid driver’s license will be required for this activity. Those who are not comfortable driving or riding in a 4×4 vehicle on bumpy, unpaved roads should select an alternate activity. Supplemental insurance will be provided for all participants.

Field Seminar to Garden of the Gods

Explore Lanai’s history and culture in this 3 hour, guided 4-wheel drive van expedition to Keahiakawelo led by a local cultural and historical expert. In recent years, Keahiakawelo has come to be known as “Garden of the gods,” which is a nod to its breathtaking views of the Pacific with the island of Molokai in the distance rather than the history or traditions of the place.
